Gaza: A War of Frenzied Revenge, A Collection of Policy Papers

Beginning with the second day of Israel’s war on Gaza, that is, Sunday October 8, 2023, the Institute for Palestine Studies decided to work around the clock to document the genocidal war against the Palestinian people and to record its impact on the Palestine Question in particular and on the Arab Israeli conflict in general. During the first month of the war, the Institute published a series of policy papers dealing with history, politics, strategic issues, international law, economy, society, reconstruction as well as the views adopted by Arab, regional and international actors, and so forth. In view of the importance of these policy papers, whether as scholarly research, or for their documentary value, or their comprehensive coverage of diverse aspects of the war on Gaza, the Institute decided to collect them in a single volume, likely to become an essential reference work for scholars and others interested and concerned in this war.

Ahmad Heneiti: Author and researcher, holds an MA in Sociology from Bir Zeit University.

Ahmad Ezzeddin As'ad: Lecturer at Bethlehem University and a research fellow at the Institute for Palestine Studies.

Ashraf Bader: Researcher and academic and a research fellow at the Arab Council for Social Sciences.

Amrit Wilson: Author and activist, she writes about Indian issues in the UK and other race related topics.

Imtanes Shehadeh: Palestinian writer and Director of Research at the Mada al-Karmil Center in Haifa, he holds a doctorate in political science from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and is a specialist in political economy.

Umaiyeh Khammash: a medical doctor and Director General of the Judhur Foundation for health and social development.

Anton Shulhut: Palestinian author and researcher.

Ayham al-Sahli: Palestinian journalist based in Beirut, he works at the Institute for Palestine Studies.

Paul Morcos: Attorney at the Court of Appeal, he holds a doctorate in law and is founder of the Justicia law firm and Dean of the Faculty of International Relations at the International Business School, Strasbourg.

Terry Regier: Professor of Linguistics, University of California at Berkeley, he lectures and publishes primarily in the field of language and perception and has also written on the political vocabulary used in the context of Palestine and the Arab world in general.

Jamil Hilal: Independent Palestinian social researcher, author and university lecturer and a specialist in political sociology, he worked as lecturer at Durham and London Universities and as a Visiting Research Fellow at Oxford University, and has been working as a senior researcher at a number of Palestinian research institutes.

Joan Deas: She holds an MA degree in international organizations from Sciences Po, Grenoble, and is pursuing a doctorate in political science at the same university. Her research focuses on diplomatic stands adopted by India, Brazil and South Africa regarding the Israel Palestine conflict.

Hassan Ladadwa: Professor of sociology at Bir Zeit University in Palestine.

Hamdan Taha: An independent researcher who was formerly Director-General of the new Palestinian Department of Antiquities (1995-2004), associate director of the antiquities and cultural heritage section (2004-2012) and director general of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities until the end of 2014. He currently supervises a project dealing with the history and heritage of Palestine.

Khaled Hamade: Staff Major-General and Director of the Regional Forum for Studies and Consultations.

Khaled Ali Zawawi: Researcher in the field of political sociology, he holds a doctorate, the thesis is entitled: “The Al-Jihad al-Islami Movement in Palestine: a sociological study in the transformations of ideological principles and political conduct, 1995-2018.”

Khaled Farraj: Director-General of the Institute for Palestine Studies.

Khattar Abu Diab: Professor of Political Science at the International Institute for Geopolitics, Paris.

Kholoud Nasser: Researcher and doctoral candidate in the social sciences program at Bir Zeit University, she holds an MA degree in public and societal health and a BS in biology and laboratory medicine. She has held several positions in the fields of health, education and project management.

Dominique Vidal: French journalist and historian and author of Antizionism=Antisemitism? A Reply to Emmanuel Macron, 2018.

Rami Rayess: Director of the Beirut Office of the Institute for Palestine Studies.

Rana Anani: Author and researcher in visual arts and culture, she resides in Ramallah. She edits the website of the Institute for Palestine Studies.

Randa Haidar: Editor of the Bulletin “Selections from the Hebrew Press” issued daily by the Institute for Palestine Studies. She has contributed to editing several books published by the Institute.

Rola Sirhan: Palestinian author and researcher and founding editor of the channel Al-Hadath Palestine.

Rola Chahwan: A specialist in visual archives and Director of the Center for Policies and Conflict Resolution at the Arab American University.

René Wildangel: Assistant Professor of Middle Eastern History at the International Hellenic University in Thessaloniki, Greece. Author and analyst, he holds a doctorate degree in history.

Sari Orabi: Palestinian author and researcher and a specialist in Palestine studies and Islamic thought.

Sameh Ismail: Egyptian researcher and lecturer in political science and the philosophy of history.

Samir Salha: Founding Dean of the Faculty of Law of Gaziantep University in Turkey, he is Professor of Law and International Relations.

Sanaa Hammoudi: Research fellow at the Institute for Palestine Studies.

Chandni Desai: Assistant Professor, University of Toronto.

Tariq Dana: Associate Professor in conflict and humanitarian studies at the Doha Graduate Center, and policy consultant to the Palestinian Policy Network (Al-Shabaka).

Abdel Rahman Tamimi: Holder of a doctorate degree in hydrology and an MA in international relations, he is director of the Society of Palestinian Hydrologists and part time lecturer at al-Quds and Arab American universities, and the author of numerous publications.

Abdul Latif Zaki Abu Hashem: Head of the Department of Manuscripts and Antiquities in the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs in Gaza.

Abdullatif Husseini: Holds a doctorate and MA in Public Health and Professor in the Institute of Social and Public Health at Bir Zeit University.

Oraib Al Rantawi: Director of al-Quds Center for Policy Studies and writer and analyst at the daily Al-Dustur. He has written and edited several books on the Palestine Question, democracy, and political reform in the Arab world.

Ismat Mansour: A former prisoner in Israeli jails, he is an author and journalist and a specialist in Israeli affairs.

Ali Hammouda: Engineer and a specialist in electricity and energy, he was formerly assistant general manager of the Al-Quds Electric Company and has held numerous other positions in the fields of energy and electricity.

Ali Sbateen: Assistant Professor at the College of Public Health at al-Quds University, he heads the Unit for Communicable Diseases at the Matla` Hospital and is a member of the Palestinian National Committee for Epidemics.

Fuad Abu Saif: Engineer and researcher at the Union of Committees of Agricultural Labor.

Kassem Kassir: Author and political writer specializing in Muslim movements, he holds an MA degree in Muslim-Christian studies. He published a book entitled The Discourse of Hezbollah: The Permanent and the Changing (1982-2016).

Layth Hanbali: Research Fellow at the Institute for Palestine Studies, he writes about public and social health issues.

Leila Seurat: Researcher at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in Paris, she is also a researcher at the Center for Social Studies in law and forensic institutions, and at the Observatory of the Arab and Islamic worlds. She is the author of numerous political books and articles.

Madlin al-Halabi: Research Fellow at the Institute for Palestine Studies.

Maher Charif: Palestinian historian, he holds a doctorat d’etat in literature and the humanities from the Sorbonne-Paris 1. He is a researcher at the Institute for Palestine Studies, and an Associate at IFPO, Beirut.

Majdi al-Malki: Head of research at the Institute for Palestine Studies, he holds a doctorate in Sociology of Development from Nanterre University-Paris 10 and is Professor of Sociology at Bir Zeit University.

Mohammad Draidi: Researcher in demographics and sociology, he holds an MA degree in urban studies and works at the Central Palestinian Bureau of Statistics as head of demography and social statistics. Author of several studies on population and demography, he has participated in many forums and conferences related to his field.

Muhammad Ali Khalidi: Presidential Professor of Philosophy at the Graduate Center, City University of New York, he has published on philosophical aspects of the Palestine Question, including refugee rights, self-determination and the ethics of war. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Palestine Studies and heads its Research Committee.

Mashhour Abu Daqqa: Palestinian academic and lecturer, he has held several ministerial portfolios at the Palestinian Ministries of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

Mouin al-Taher: Palestinian writer and researcher, he is a former member of the Revolutionary Council of FATH and of the Higher Military Council of the Palestinian Revolution.

Muhannad Abd al-Hameed: Palestinian writer and journalist, he is the author of several books and articles in the fields of politics, education, and social development.

Muhannad Mustafa: Chairman of the History Department at the Arab Academic Institute of Beit Perl College.

Naser Abdelkarim: Economic analyst and university professor, he holds a doctorate in financial economics from Southern Illinois University in 1992, an MA in accountancy from the Texas Institute of Technology and Science in 1984, and a BA in accountancy and management from the Jordan University in 1980.

Nazmi Jubeh: Born in Jerusalem and resides there, he holds a BA from Bir Zeit University (1980), and an MA and Ph.D in Oriental Studies and Antiquities from Tübingen University in Germany (1991). He is an Associate Professor in the Department of History and Antiquities at Bir Zeit University (since 1991).

Nur Masalha: Palestinian historian from Galilee, he studied at Bir Zeir, London and Richmond universities. He is a research fellow at SOAS, University of London, and a lecturer in Islamic Studies at St Mary University College, Surrey, UK.

Noura Erakat: Associate Professor in the African Studies department and Program in Criminal Justice at Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA.

Hadeel Rizq-al-Qazzaz: Researcher in social diversity and development and Gazan by origin, she has worked for more than twenty years with international development agencies and is a research associate at the Institute for Palestine Studies.

Himmat Zoubi: She holds a doctorate in Sociology and currently resides in Berlin as a postdoctoral fellow in the EUME Program.

Hugh Lovatt: He is a senior policy fellow with the Middle East and North Africa Programme at the European Council on Foreign Relations.

Wadie Awawidah: Author and journalist from the town of Kfar Kina in the Nazareth Province, he holds an MA in Middle East history from al-Quds University and focusses on documenting oral Palestinian history.

Walid Khadduri: A member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Palestine Studies, he holds a doctorate degree from the School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He has published several books and articles on energy issues, including works published by the Institute for Palestine Studies.

Yasser Shalabi: Researcher and independent consultant in the field of development and social policy, he holds a doctorate degree in Sociology and has worked with several international and local agencies and as a part time lecturer at Bir Zeit University in the MA Program in International Migration and Asylum and in the two departments of Social and Behavioral Sciences and of Cultural Studies.
