Abstract:

This book is a continuation of my previous research contributions in the field of cultural studies. It is mainly based on a descriptive approach; that is because I chose a sample of critical Palestinian male and female intellectuals from various walks of life, who excelled in the fields of thought, history, and literature. They generally belonged to the Palestine Liberation Organization, however, they took critical positions towards its leadership, the peace process, and its repercussions, especially after the Oslo agreement.

My selection of this group of intellectuals is not mean to imply that the field of Palestinian critical culture is limited to them. Therefore, I would like to draw attention two factors that have influenced the selection process. The first is that this book is based on a paper that I presented at the conference, “Palestinian Culture Today: Challenges and Prospects,” organized by the Institute for Palestine Studies in collaboration with the Faculty of Art, Music and Design at Birzeit University, November 22-24, 2021, where I received positive feedback that motivated me to work on expanding this paper. The second factor is that the intellectuals I have chosen have contributed more than others, in my opinion, to the concept of liberation, its significance, and the ways to achieve it; and I am well acquainted with their output in this field.
