Cet ouvrage collectif réunit des contributions d’essayistes et de critiques littéraires qui traitent, à partir de l’analyse d’un recueil ou d’un poème en particulier, ou en revisitant l’ensemble de son parcours, de l’art poétique de Mahmoud Darwich comme perpétuel renouvellement. Conçu à l’origine comme un hommage au poète dix ans après sa mort, il y est notamment question de la veine autobiographique de ses derniers recueils, de son enracinement dans l’histoire et la géographie de son pays natal, de son ouverture sur l’aventure mondiale de la poésie, de sa pratique d’une intertextualité lucide et créatrice, ainsi que des difficultés que ses textes posent à la traduction. À quoi s’ajoutent des témoignages sur certains épisodes de sa vie, mettant l’accent sur la réception chaleureuse de sa poésie dès ses premiers recueils et sur l’importance dans son œuvre de sa résidence en France pendant plus de dix ans.

This anthology brings together contributions by essayists and literary critics who examine the poetic art of Mahmoud Darwish as one of constant innovation, based on the analysis of either a single poem or a specific collection, or by revisiting his poetic oeuvre as a whole. Conceived originally as a tribute to the poet on the tenth anniversary of his death, it especially concerns itself with the autobiographical streak that characterized his final collections, his deep-rootedness in the history and geography of his homeland, his openness to the universe of poetic exploration, his practicing of a creative, lucid intertextuality, as well as the obstacles that his texts pose to translation. In addition, it includes accounts of certain periods of his life, with a focus on the fervor with which his poetry was received beginning with his earliest collections, as well as the significance for his work of his decade-long stay in France.
