Abstract:

This work analyses the developments in the Israeli economy that began gradually from the 1960s to the 1980s, and picked up speed in the 1990s, transforming it from a democratic socialist to a capitalist system. This transformation is studied in terms of its effect on the structure of the Israeli economy, especially the shift from the traditional industries to high-tech and military industries. The work also discusses the relationship of the Israeli economy to world markets, particularly the opening to the markets of China and India, as well as the initial entry into Arab markets at the beginning of the peace process.
